Parti PERPADUAN Urges Sabah PWD to Promptly Address the Collapsed Road in Tongod

Scholastica Taraji is pointing the collapsed road in Kg Malian and the lack of signboards, which could pose safety risks for road users

TONGOD: The Chief of the Women’s Wing of PERPADUAN, Puan Scholastica Taraji, has chided the State Government and the Public Works Department (PWD) for their failure to address the issue of road collapse along the Telupid-Pinangah route, particularly in Kampung Malian, Tongod, which has persisted for over two years without resolution.

She stated that the condition of the collapsed road poses a serious threat to the lives of the people.

“Villagers who use this route daily live in fear as vehicles risk plunging into the collapsed area due to insufficient safety measures in place.

“This is an unacceptable negligence,” she said in a statement today.

Scholastica emphasised that PERPADUAN takes the indifference and negligence of the authorities seriously, as this road is a main route connecting Telupid, Pinangah, Kampung Mongkowogu, Kampung Soguon, Kampung Tampasak, and several other villages.

“This route is also crucial for transporting palm oil and rubber products from the Kuamut area.

“Even more disappointing, the elected representative of DUN Kuamut uses the same road every time they return to Kampung Alitang, yet the suffering of the people continues to be ignored without effective action. PERPADUAN hopes that the Kuamut representative will be firm and urge PWD to act immediately,” she stated.

She reiterated that PERPADUAN insists that excuses for delays are no longer acceptable.

“Therefore, we demand that Sabah PWD carry out immediate and comprehensive repair work before a tragedy resulting in loss of life occurs.

PERPADUAN believes that the continued failure of the Sabah State Government and JKR to act promptly will be seen as a betrayal of the safety of rural citizens,” she added.
