Chief Minister urged to intervene in the welfare issue of Kg Sembulan residents facing house demolitions – Jeffery Nor

KOTA KINABALU: Putatan UMNO Chief Jeffery Nor Mohamed is seriously concerned and expresses sympathy for the welfare of the residents of Kampung Sembulan, whose homes are set to be demolished.

He stated that according to the information received, at least 106 houses in Kg Sembulan are affected by the demolitions.

In this regard, Jeffery appeals to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, to intervene in addressing the ‘welfare issue’ of the affected Kg Sembulan residents.

“The relocation plan or compensation must be clear to the affected residents. “Will they be provided with alternative housing or compensation?” he said in a statement here today.

Therefore, he said that the state government needs to clarify in detail the welfare issues of the affected residents and how to address them.

Jeffery, who is vocal in advocating for the affected Kg Sembulan residents, also requests that no other residents in Kg Sembulan be impacted by the demolitions now or in the future.

“The issue of land development is not the question, but how the state government will take responsibility for the residents’ fate here (Sembulan).

“We request that before any demolitions occur, a final discussion with the residents or homeowners here be held.

“We want a win-win approach to be implemented… so we ask to postpone the demolitions for now,” he said.
