KOTA KINABALU: The candidate for the Deputy President of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Service (Cuepacs), Murkam Hj Hussien, is determined to transform the association into a leading organization for inclusive public servant transformation if elected to that position.
As the President of the Sabah Government Teachers’ Union (KGKS), he has also outlined several key missions to empower public servants in the country.
These include enhancing the governance of the union, strengthening the integrity of public servants, and improving the service schemes for government members.
“It is time for Cuepacs to make a paradigm shift and boldly implement inclusive changes, including providing opportunities for leaders of public servant associations from Sabah and Sarawak to lead the national Cuepacs leadership.
“That is why I wholeheartedly accept the nomination to contest for the position of Deputy President of Cuepacs, thereby nurturing the practice of democracy,” he said in a statement here today.
In addition to being the president of KGKS, Murkam is also the Co-Chairman of the Joint Council of Sabah Departments, the Chairman of the State Education Coalition, and the Deputy Chairman of Cuepacs Sabah.
At the KGKS level, Murkam has been a strong advocate for the welfare of teachers and educators in Sabah.
This includes the new interpretation of the Regional Housing Allowance (EPW), which has caused many teachers in the state to feel pressured and burdened due to having to bear debt repayments based on recalculations enforced retroactively.
