BN commits to advocating for a new international airport if granted the mandate

KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional (BN) has committed to advocating for the establishment of a new international airport should it receive the mandate to form the next government in Sabah.

This initiative is essential due to the increased capacity required to meet the growing demand for passengers and cargo.

The proposal was introduced in its six-pillar One Sabah Development Plan manifesto at the Sabah Umno headquarters this morning.

Additionally, Sabah BN plans to construct 15,000 affordable homes annually through its Rumah SabahKu initiative.

The initiative, presented in its six-pillar One Sabah Development Plan manifesto, aims to assist B40 and M40 families in acquiring their first homes, along with a dedicated repair fund for households impacted by natural disasters.

Another significant proposal includes the establishment of a Sabah wealth fund, a long-term savings and investment mechanism financed by the state’s natural resources, strategic investments, government-linked companies (GLCs), the private sector, and Petronas.

BN stated that this fund would act as a financial safeguard for future generations and protect Sabah’s economic sovereignty.

Moreover, there are plans to develop a new port in Kudat, featuring a free trade zone, to enhance economic growth in northern Sabah.

The manifesto, presented by Sabah BN election director Datuk Seri Dr  Salleh Said Keruak, detailed the completion of the delayed Pan Borneo Highway within five years, along with ongoing improvements and new rural link roads to ensure what it describes as a “balanced and sustained economic spillover” throughout the state.

On the federal level, BN emphasized its commitment to ensuring that the federal government honors Sabah’s entitlement to 40% of the revenue generated from the state.

The manifesto also calls for Sabah representation in all federal government-linked companies and requests that 35% of parliamentary seats be allocated collectively to Sabah and Sarawak to uphold the equal partnership principle established at Malaysia’s founding.
