One Vote, One Voice: A Heartfelt Reflection Before the Ballot

By Remy Majangkim

KOTA KINABALU: Good day. Not long ago, a friend asked me a question that lingered in my thoughts: “Who should I vote for to lead our state on 29 November?”

He’s earned a quiet moment of rest after months of labour in the estate. His vote will be cast in Luyang, a stronghold of the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

But he said it feels hopeless—like his single vote is a whisper drowned out by the roar of the crowd.

I looked him in the eye and said, ‘Your vote is not just a mark on paper.’ It is your voice. It is your story. It is your power.

In a democracy, every vote matters—not because it guarantees victory, but because it declares where you stand. It speaks for your well-being, your hopes, and your disappointments. It’s not about the masses. It’s about you.

Choosing who to vote for is not just a political decision. It’s a deeply personal one. It’s shaped by the journey that brought you here—the struggles, the sacrifices, the promises made and broken.

Ask yourself: Has life improved under their leadership these past five years? Why do fresh ideas only bloom during campaign season, yet wither during their time in office?

What did they do when corruption spread like rot through our institutions? Did they speak out? Did they walk away in protest? Or did they stay silent? And if they stayed silent… why?

In 2020, we saw betrayal sweep across the nation. DAP stood with Warisan, and under Article 6(7) of the State Constitution,

Warisan was the rightful winner. But the final call lay with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri (TYT), who invited Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to form the government—even though GRS wasn’t a registered entity at the time.

We waited, hearts heavy, as Datuk Hajiji Noor took office.

Then came the unthinkable: DAP left Warisan and joined GRS.

They turned their backs on the people who believed in them. And now, as their term ends, they return—asking for another chance.

So I ask you: should you give it to them?

Don’t look to the crowd for your answer.

Look inward. Listen to your heart. Let your vote be your truth.
