Being the son of TYT Tun Musa should not be leveraged as a political matter – Hazem

SANDAKAN: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for the Sungai Manila state seat, Hazem Mubarak Musa, has stressed that his position as the son of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri (TYT) Sabah should not be used as a political issue by any party during the campaign for the 17th Sabah State Legislative Assembly Election.

According to Hazem, the TYT is the Head of State and is not permitted to campaign or vote.

Therefore, any attempt to associate his political involvement with his father’s position is unfounded.

“I have always explained that the TYT cannot interfere in politics. I am contesting based on my own capacity, not because of my family’s position,” he said during a press conference at the Menyantuni Media Programme held at Hotel Pavilion Sandakan on Monday.

Hazem also revealed that the only advice his father gave before he entered politics was to ensure that every action taken benefits the people and prioritises their welfare.

He added that the water supply problem remains the main complaint among residents of Sungai Manila, and is an issue that has long persisted across Sabah.

“If I am given the mandate, the water issue will be a priority. We will call the relevant authorities to identify the root cause and bring this matter to the highest level to ensure a long-term solution,” he explained.

Hazem further emphasised the need to focus on the younger generation in Sungai Manila, many of whom hold degrees and skills but face limited employment opportunities in the area.

“We will engage with the youth, understand their needs and support them through skills programmes and suitable job opportunities,” he said.

He also reiterated the GRS government’s commitment to people’s welfare, including ongoing assistance such as the RM300 monthly Bantuan Ehsan, which he described as highly helpful for rural communities.

Commenting on the increased number of candidates in this state election, Hazem said the situation reflects a healthy democracy, as voters now assess candidates based on their capability and integrity, rather than solely on the party they represent.
