RANAU: An unstable political situation due to frequent government changes can hinder the implementation of planned development projects, said Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
He said that before the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) took over the state leadership, a lot of time was spent managing political issues rather than focusing on development agendas.
“A lot of time is wasted on politics because of the instability. Governments keep changing. When this happens, our work is just about politics to ensure we win and not lose.
“It’s like in football; when we fear losing, we just defend. But when we are strong and united, we are not afraid to face the opposing team, and we have more time to collaborate and score goals against them,” he said.
Masidi stressed that political stability allows leaders to fully concentrate on state development and the welfare of the people.
“When less time is spent on politics, more time can be dedicated to developing this state. Any weaknesses in the government can also be addressed if the government is strong and stable.
“However, it is difficult for any government to improve itself in an uncertain political climate,” he added.
He made these remarks while officiating the Mini Hall at Taman Saujana here on Sunday.
Earlier, Masidi, who is also the Sabah Finance Minister, inaugurated the Mini Hall at Kampung Mumpait and the Mini Hall at Kampung Minansalu on the same day.
