Re: Unsound Policy – Petroleum and Gas Poductions, Better to work with Federal? – Premier

By VOON LEE SHAN, President, Parti Bumi Kenyalang

KOTA KINABALU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg should realise that the people of SARAWAK are against the federal government and PETRONAS having anything to do with oil and gas resources that belongs to Sarawak.

Sarawak is capable to manage these resources and the premier should understand that the federal government and PETRONAS should not make any money from these resources.

Why should we share what is ours with others?

Parti Bumi Kenyalang wants the Petroleum Development Act 1974(PDA74) be repealed by Parliament so that the oil and gas resources will not continue to be vested in PETRONAS. As it is now, Sarawak only plays a role of an aggregator or distributor but ownership of these oil and gas resources are with PETRONAS.

To continue to work with the federal government for the production of oil and gas that belongs to Sarawak is not a good or sound policy. The federal government should not be allowed to continue through PETRONAS to pump these resources from Sarawak for the benefit of the federal government.

The six year revenue in the sum of RM 285.4 billion between 2018 -2024 contributed by Sarawak to the nation’s petroleum earnings is a huge money but what Sarawak used to get back from the federal coffers was always less than RM5 billion each year during annual budget passed by Parliament.

To allow the federal government to have a hand in oil and gas resources of SARAWAK shows that the GPS government is weak in managing and protecting these natural resources of SARAWAK.
