KOTA KINABALU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) of Sabah asserts that if granted the mandate to govern the state again, the first action they will undertake is to conduct a comprehensive forensic audit of Sabah Mineral Management Sdn. Bhd. (SMM).
The Information Chief of Sabah UMNO and Member of Parliament for Libaran, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, stated that this audit is crucial to ensure that every approval, licence, and mineral concession in the state is granted transparently, with integrity, and focused on the interests of the people of Sabah, rather than personal or political agendas.
“The SMM issue has revealed serious weaknesses in the management of state resources. When the management of state assets is fraught with various controversies, it indicates that the system is lax and needs immediate correction,” he said in a statement.
According to Suhaimi, implementing a forensic audit is a fundamental step to restore public confidence in the integrity of the state administration and to ensure that every natural resource of Sabah is managed responsibly.
“BN believes that Sabah needs a government that is brave enough to correct issues, not just deny them. This forensic audit will be BN’s first action in the effort to regain the trust of the people,” he explained.
He emphasised that BN is not here to punish anyone but rather to restore discipline, uphold integrity, and regain the dignity of the state government.
“BN is here to rebuild the integrity of the state, not to find faults. What matters is ensuring the future of Sabah’s administration is back on the right track,” he added.
The Election Commission (EC) has set the nomination date for the Sabah state election on November 15, while the early voting and polling dates are on November 25 and 29, respectively.
