Shahelmey considers all options to determine his political future

PUTATAN: The present assemblyman for Tanjung Keramat, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, is currently considering the potential outcomes of the existing political landscape.

He understands that a lawsuit from Barisan Nasional (BN) could be a possibility if he chooses to run under a different party, but he mentioned that there is still time to reach a conclusion.

“I acknowledge that and am still in the process of considering my political position.

“As I said, in politics, three weeks is quite a long time.

“Anything can happen,” he said while responding to media questions regarding his status as a BN Member of Parliament, who is currently facing a lawsuit from the party.

He made these comments when he met with the media after handing over incentives for the Putatan contingent that received medals at the SAGA championship at the Putatan District Office today.

Recently, UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki revealed that Shahelmey and Datuk Andi Surady (Member of Parliament for Kalabakan) could face a RM100 million lawsuit if they contest under the GRS ticket in the upcoming state election.

For the record, Shahelmey and Andi, who also hold the Tanjung Keramat and Tanjung Batu state seats, have been suspended from membership for six years for not supporting the leadership of UMNO in Sabah during the Langkah Kinabalu episode in 2023.
