KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans, or Orang Sabah, must prioritise the defence of state rights and the shaping of ‘our own future’, said former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He noted that the Kota Kinabalu High Court has confirmed that the 40% revenue entitlement is a constitutional right rather than a political favour.
“Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution ensure that 40% of the net revenue collected by the Federal Government from Sabah is guaranteed.
“This is not merely a contribution or a new negotiation — it is a constitutional duty that embodies fairness within the Malaysian Federation,” he expressed in his recent Facebook post.
Salleh emphasised that the promise made in 1963 must now be acted upon.
“The foundation of our nation’s strength lies in mutual respect and cooperation between Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia. Sabah needs to enhance its own capabilities in finance, administration, and economic planning,” he remarked.
He added that every right we uphold must yield tangible and measurable benefits for the people.
Regarding this matter, Salleh urged that ‘Orang Sabah’ must unite.
“Defending our rights is not about conflict but about dignity and justice.
“With unity and maturity, Sabah can assert its rightful position within the Federation of Malaysia,” he concluded.
Upholding Sabah’s Rights — From Promise to Action
KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans or Orang Sabah must come first in defending the state rights and shaping ‘our own future’, said former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak.
He said the Kota Kinabalu High Court has affirmed that the 40% revenue entitlement is a constitutional right, not a political favour.
“Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution guarantee 40% of the net revenue collected by the Federal Government from Sabah.
“This is not a contribution or a new negotiation — it is a constitutional obligation that defines fairness within the Malaysian Federation,” he said in his latest FB post.
Salleh said the promise made in 1963 must now be translated into action.
“Mutual respect and cooperation between Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia form the foundation of our nation’s strength.
“Sabah must strengthen its own capacity in finance, administration, and economic planning,” he said.
He said every right we defend must bring real and measurable benefits to the people.
On this issue, Salleh said ‘Orang Sabah’ must stand united.
“Upholding our rights is not about confrontation but about dignity and justice.
“Through unity and maturity, Sabah can claim its rightful place within the Federation of Malaysia,” he said.
