She said the time had come for the Federal Government to move beyond symbolic gestures and fulfil Sabah’s rightful 40% entitlement, as guaranteed under the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Edna welcomed the recent Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling affirming Sabah’s entitlement but said the judgment must now translate into real and enforceable action.
While she acknowledged the Prime Minister’s commitment and allocations channelled to Sabah through budgets, grants and development funds, Edna stressed that these could not be mistaken for what was constitutionally owed to the state.
“The forty percent entitlement is not a political favour or a token of goodwill. It is a constitutional right, clearly stated under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution and enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” she said.
Edna said the issue affected every Sabahan, every family and every child who depends on fairness and mutual respect within the Federation.
She added that her community in Inanam stood united in viewing this struggle not merely as a political issue but as a matter of justice and dignity for all Sabahans.
“The future of Sabah depends on our courage to remain united in demanding what is right and on the integrity of our leaders to deliver it,” she said.
“We expect the Prime Minister to show
true statesmanship, not merely by recognising our claim, but by ensuring it is fulfilled without delay or compromise.”
Edna also reminded that the court’s decision must serve as a turning point for genuine action.
“The court has spoken. The Constitution is clear. Now, the government must act. This is not charity – this is justice, and justice must never be delayed,” she said.
She called on all Sabahans, regardless of race, religion or political belief, to stand together as one in reclaiming their rightful share under the Federation.
“Let us be the generation that corrects the wrongs of the past and rebuilds Malaysia upon truth, equality and respect for every partner in this Federation, as envisioned under MA63. That is the Malaysia our forefathers envisioned, and it is the Malaysia we must rebuild together,” she said.
