Three new boats enhance ESSCOM’s tactical capabilities

LAHAD DATU: Security control over the waters in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) will be improved with the handover of three high-speed Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB) to the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) and the General Operations Force (PGA) today.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, stated that the transfer of assets worth RM4.497 million is part of the national security enhancement plan in the strategic waters of Eastern Sabah.

He said that two boats were handed over to the PGA while one was given to ESSCOM, to strengthen patrols and operational capabilities in high-risk areas.

“The operation of these boats is expected to increase the presence of security assets in key locations such as Sungai Aji Kuning, Pulau Sebatik, and the waters of Tawau.

“This will also enable security forces to respond more quickly to any cross-border threats, thus ensuring the nation’s sovereignty is maintained,” he said.

He made these remarks during the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs’ working visit to ESSZone and the handover of the high-speed boat (RHIB) at Sapangar Shipyard today.

Shamsul Anuar noted that the boats were built by Sepanggar Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. and were fully completed under the Fourth Rolling Plan (RP4) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-12) for the year 2024.

“This asset handover reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to enhance asset readiness and improve the tactical capabilities of security forces,” he said.

He added that this initiative also supports the planning of Phase Two of ESSCOM, which aims to comprehensively strengthen security in the ESS Zone to maintain order in border areas.

Shamsul Anuar also expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for the government’s commitment in the MADANI Budget 2026, including the approval for the construction of additional quarters for ESSCOM in Lahad Datu to improve the welfare of security personnel.
