KOTA BELUD: The advisor of Yayasan Kasih Suria, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, urged the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) to enhance their role to assist schools in addressing the rise of social problems among students, including cases of rape, bullying, truancy, and school dropouts.
Speaking at the opening of the PIBG Appreciation Ceremony for the Kota Belud District Education Office (PPD) for the 2024/2025 session at The Bay Edge, Kuala Abai, near here today, Salleh said that social issues should not be taken lightly as they reflect the moral and disciplinary challenges faced by students at the grassroots level.
He emphasised that parents must be the primary defence in instilling values and character in their children.
“Students are only in school for seven hours a day. The rest of the time, they are with their families and communities.
“Therefore, parents must play a role in shaping discipline and manners so that children do not get involved in negative behaviours,” he said.
Salleh said that PIBG is not just a support body for schools but rather an important strategic partner in creating a safe and progressive educational environment.
He noted that a close relationship between teachers, parents, and the community is the foundation for producing knowledgeable, disciplined, and morally upright students.
The event also presented 20 categories of PIBG awards to schools and individuals who have excelled in community involvement and student development.
Also present was the focal person of the event, Puan Hasrina Wati Datuk Golkhan, who played a crucial role in coordinating the programme.
