KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Secretary-General of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS),
Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali opined that the five former assemblymen from the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) who have left the party now face two choices.
“They have two options if they wish to contest and be selected as candidates. The first is to join any party within GRS.
“The second is, if they do not join a component party, they can register as GRS members like I did and stand for election,” he said.
Armizan clarified that the dissolution of the State Assembly (DUN) has rendered the issue of party-hopping irrelevant, as the mandate has been returned to the people.
“I believe the issue of the ADUN is no longer relevant since the DUN has been dissolved. Therefore, the question of hopping does not arise because they will return to the people. From what I understand, they will be with GRS,” he stated.
Previously, the President of STAR, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, confirmed that he had received resignation letters from the five ADUNs of the party.
They are Datuk Ellron Angin (Sook), Datuk Annuar Ayub Aman (Liawan), Datuk Robert Tawik (Bingkor), Datuk Flovia Ng (Tulid), and Datuk Abidin Madingkir (Paginatan).
Jeffrey mentioned that the acceptance of these letters automatically nullifies their membership, including their positions within the party.
