“Political Donation” Sabah: Warisan calls on SPRM to take action

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan has criticised MACC for its supposed inaction in investigating and prosecuting Sabah politicians linked to a corruption scandal involving mining projects in the region.

This statement comes after the acting President of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Joachim Gunsalam, acknowledged receiving “political donations” from the controversial businessman Albert Tei, while also claiming it was not at the request of the PBS party.

Warisan’s Vice President, Terrence Siambun, remarked that Joachim has now confirmed the authenticity of the video, suggesting that the footage discussed and witnessed does indeed exist.

“What is even more concerning is Joachim’s own remark stating ‘we never asked for it, he gave it first.’

“Such a remark does not serve as an excuse. It is an acknowledgment that money was indeed given and accepted.

“No matter who offered or requested it, money changed hands between the businessman and the elected official.

“That is the core definition of corruption and abuse of power,” he expressed in a statement today.

Previously, Malaysiakini released a report regarding Joachim’s admission of a video recording that allegedly shows him in conversation with Tei.
