PITAS: Once the two new town initiatives are finalized by 2028, Pitas will establish itself as the most vital new commercial city on Sabah’s west coast.
Datuk Masiung Banah, the Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB), stated that these two major projects are located in Kampung Taka and the New Pitas town, developed in collaboration with strategic partners by the state government.
He made these remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new town in Kampung Taka, which was officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor yesterday morning.
He noted that both new Pekan projects in the region are part of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) program.
In addition, the first project in Pitas New Town, which began development in 2023, is nearing completion, featuring 68 units of two-storey and 14 joint-level industrial lots.
Masiung mentioned that the latest project launched yesterday morning in Kampung Taka involves the construction of affordable and commercial housing.
A site of 37.60 acres has been designated for this project in the village, which will include 320 units of affordable housing, comprising 274 two-storey terraced houses and 52 two-storey houses. He also indicated that the LPPB is constructing 170 commercial building units, which include 68 shops and offices, 64 kiosks, a supermarket, and 8 showrooms.
According to Masiung, construction for the latest project in Kampung Taka is expected to commence as early as next year. Katanta, both projects are anticipated to enhance the local economy.
