Wetrom to contest in Matunggong – PBS stronghold

KOTA MARUDU: The Deputy President of the Community Democratic Party (KDM), Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, is staking his political career by contesting in the stronghold of PBS, which is a component party of GRS in Matunggong state constituency in the 17th state election (PRN).

The current assemblyman for Bandau confirmed to run in Matunggong, which is also his hometown.

“I am moving to DUN Matunggong for the upcoming PRN. My decision to contest in Matunggong is based on the request from the grassroots in that area,” he stated.

He said this when he was met after the launch event of the PRN Sabah machinery for the DUN Matunggong, Bandau, and Tandek on Saturday.

Wetrom acknowledged that it is not an easy task, but he is confident that the people of Matunggong desire change, as demonstrated by the voters in Kota Marudu during the 15th General Election (PRU15) in 2022.

Previously, Wetrom won the Bandau seat in the 16th state election and created a surprise by defeating the then-President of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, in the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat during the 15th General Election.
