TAMBUNAN: The government’s initiative to provide 10 units of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Homes to underprivileged youth who are already married should be regarded as evidence of the government’s commitment to the welfare of this demographic.
Dato Dr Victor Peter Paut, the head of the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) party in Tambunan, stated that this also reflects the government’s determination to ensure that the youth are not overlooked, in line with the state government’s efforts to support the people and drive development in the region.
“I welcome the announcement by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, to increase the number of SMJ Homes by 10 units in each Sabah State Assembly (DUN) area for underprivileged youth who are newly married starting next year.
This addition will bring the total to 50 SMJ Homes to be constructed in each DUN area in Sabah next year, compared to 40 units this year. Victor mentioned that the provision of SMJ Homes for struggling young families will undoubtedly enable them to have comfortable housing.
This announcement was made by Hajiji during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Housing and Shop Project by the Sabah Housing and Urban Development Authority (LPPB) in Kampung Takadi, here, on Saturday.
“The additional 10 units are intended for young couples who are struggling and newly married, as we understand that some young couples still live with their families,” Hajiji said.
