Sabah UMNO defends state’s rights on immigration amid Albert Tei’s challenge in court

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO has described the action of businessman Albert Tei in challenging the executive power of the Sabah government on immigration matters as inappropriate and in violation of the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

The chief of the Sabah UMNO War Room Secretariat, Abdul Aziz Julkarnain, asserted that Sabah’s immigration autonomy is a state right that must be defended, not challenged in court.

“I agree that thieves of public funds should not go scot-free, regardless of whether they are ministers or children of VIPs.

“No one is above the law. This immigration power is the prerogative of the state government,” he said in his latest social media post.

According to him, Sabah’s rights on immigration should not be questioned and challenged by any party.

Abdul Aziz stressed that there was no need for Albert to challenge Sabah’s rights because he had a letter from the court to attend court proceedings.

“There’s also a letter from the court; just show any reason to enter Sabah. ‘Why challenge Sabah’s rights?’ he said.

Meanwhile, businessman Albert Tei has initiated legal action against Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Mohd Noor to demand an explanation regarding the ban on his entry into the state.

This is after Tei – the individual who provided information regarding the mining scandal in Sabah – was barred by immigration upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport recently.
