No ‘Bargain’ Courses: All UMS Study Programmes Are MQA Accredited – Vice Chancellor

KOTA KINABALU: All courses offered at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), stated UMS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Hj Mansor.

He said that all programmes have undergone rigorous evaluation and accreditation processes as stipulated by MQA, including assessments of graduate employability, market research, lecturer qualifications, and curriculum relevance.

In this regard, he asserted that UMS completely denies the notion that there are ‘bargain courses’ at higher education institutions (HEIs).

“For this university, such a matter has never arisen, as the study programmes at UMS are consistently reviewed to ensure the content remains relevant to current industry developments.

“This process guarantees that UMS graduates not only meet the demands of the domestic job market but are also capable of competing on an international level,” he stated in a statement on Tuesday.

Dr Kasim further reinforced this with findings from the average Graduate Employability (GE) rate of UMS over the past five years, which stands at 95.46%, witnessing the highest GE rate in 2023 at 98.5%.

“This fact serves as strong evidence that graduates from this university are well-received in the job market,” he said.

In line with the statement from the Minister of Higher Education and the affirmation from MQA, he noted that UMS is committed to continuously providing high-quality programmes, producing competitive and capable graduates, and contributing to the development of society and the nation.
