KOTA KINABALU: The acting president of the Democratic People’s Welfare Party (KDM), Priscella Peter, has confirmed her candidacy for the Melalap State Constituency (DUN) in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17).
This means Priscella will attempt to defend the seat held by her father, Datuk Peter Anthony, since 2018.
She said that she aims to carry on her father’s legacy in developing and assisting the people in that area.
“It’s not an easy task, but my father’s spirit is always with me, always with the people of Melalap.
“The people in Melalap recognise Datuk Peter’s concern, and even now when I visit the area, they still talk about his goodness (Peter); his aura is so strong, and this proves that my father has done his job well in Melalap.
“I will continue the fight to help the people in Melalap; there is still much development to be done. I am doing this (running in Melalap) not just for my father, but for the people of Melalap who still hope for ongoing development,” she said.
The 14th General Election (PRU14) in 2018 saw Peter, running under the Warisan banner, winning the DUN Melalap seat by a narrow majority of just 293 votes against five other candidates.
However, in the last PRN16, he once again contested under Warisan and won the seat with a significantly higher majority of 1,719 votes in a six-cornered contest.
In early 2022, Peter then left Warisan to establish the KDM party.
