KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has suggested that there will be ‘positive developments’ for Sabah in the upcoming 2026 budget, which is scheduled to be presented on October 10.
As reported by Harian Metro, Anwar, who also serves as the finance minister, mentioned that despite not being from Sabah, the state is set to receive the largest allocation in Malaysia’s history.
“The national budget, God willing, I will announce for Malaysia. For Sabah, there will be a positive announcement on October 10,” he was quoted as saying during a PKR event in Kampung Kobuni, near here, today. I
In the 2025 budget, Sabah and Sarawak were allocated RM6.7 billion and RM5.9 billion in development funds, respectively, an increase from RM6.6 billion and RM5.8 billion previously.
Additionally, the interim special grants for both states were increased to RM600 million each in 2025, up from RM300 million before.
The government also raised allocations for the two Borneo states in the 2024 budget by increasing the special grants in 2024 from RM16 million for Sarawak and RM125.6 million for Sabah.
