KOTA KINABALU: Educated youth should act as change agents, especially for rural communities that are still marginalised.
Kuamut assemblyman, Datuk Masiung Banah said the youth and students from higher education institutions should take on social responsibilities and share current perspectives with people from various backgrounds.
He made these remarks during a friendly session at the Kalaga Relaxation Program with youth and university students from the Tongod district at Likas Stadium on Wednesday.
According to him, this group can also provide positive insights to local leaders and discuss current issues regarding future development.
Masiung reminded that student integration should not be misused by certain groups to fulfill extreme political agendas, such as participating in illegal gatherings.
Masiung referred to several incidents in the state capital recently involving university students being exploited by leftist groups to join illegal demonstrations.
He emphasised that students and youth who collude with politicians for negative purposes will only harm the future of young people who aspire to achieve their dreams.
A charity football tournament was also held as part of the program, featuring six teams, including two women’s teams.
