KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Hajiji Noor has announced that the Sabah legislative assembly will be dissolved to facilitate the 17th state election prior to its automatic dissolution on November 11.
However, Hajiji did not specify whether the announcement regarding the assembly’s dissolution would occur next month or in November, as reported by Berita Harian.
According to FMT, he mentioned that the timing would not be influenced by the meteorology department’s weather forecasts, despite the department indicating that Sabah would face wet conditions in October.
“We have no choice because the state assembly automatically dissolves in November anyway. So we must (dissolve) before that,” he was quoted as saying.
“It definitely will be soon, just be patient and wait.”
The state election is required to take place within 60 days following the assembly’s dissolution. Currently, Sabah is dealing with flooding that has displaced hundreds of residents.
The heavy rainfall has also triggered landslides, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals, including seven children.
