KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured the people of Sabah that the federal government will not leave the state to manage the rebuilding efforts independently.
He stated that Putrajaya and the state government will jointly determine how to distribute the recovery costs.
Anwar mentioned that the federal government has already allocated RM10 million in emergency assistance but acknowledged that the full scale of the damage from the recent floods and landslides may necessitate additional funds.
“The state government has responded swiftly, and as you are aware, even while I was in Doha, I directed the federal machinery to intervene, including the initial RM10 million allocation.
“However, it is now evident that there are additional requirements that will demand significantly more resources,” he informed reporters during his visit to Kota Kinabalu.
Earlier, Anwar toured the impacted regions, including a landslide site in Country Heights, the SK St Paul evacuation centre in Kolopis, and the PPS in Kampung Sarapung in Penampang, before proceeding to the Gaya Teachers’ College in Kota Kinabalu.
