Sabah UMNO postpones the Blue Wave programme, prioritising aid for disaster victims

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) have announced the temporary cancellation of the Blue Wave (Gelombang Biru) programme, which was scheduled for September 21, 2025, following the landslide and flood tragedy affecting the state.

The programme will be rescheduled for a later date.

Sabah UMNO Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir stated that this decision was made on humanitarian grounds, considering the dire situation faced by the people.

“We cannot celebrate a political gathering while the people mourn the loss of loved ones due to the landslide, and thousands more are struggling with floods across the state,” he said in a statement today.

He also extended condolences to the families of the victims, emphasising that their suffering is a shared sorrow among all the people of Sabah.

“In this moment, we do not see them as voters or party supporters, but as our own brothers and family,” he added.

Suhaimi stressed that all BN Sabah machinery is now mobilised to the field to provide immediate assistance, as well as moral support and prayers for the victims.

“Politics can wait. But when there are small children sleeping in evacuation centres, mothers losing their shelters, and families mourning recently buried bodies – that is where our energy must be directed,” he explained.

According to him, the Gelombang Biru programme will continue at an appropriate time, but for now, UMNO Sabah wants to focus entirely on efforts to assist the people.

“Today, let us together create a ‘Wave of Humanity’ – a wave of love, solidarity, and sacrifice for the people of Sabah,” he said.
