KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia Day is an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s journey while ensuring that the voices of the people of Borneo, particularly in Sabah, continue to be heard.
The Acting President of the Democratic People’s Welfare Party (KDM), Priscella Peter, stated that Sabah and Sarawak play a crucial role in strengthening the political and economic landscape of the country.
Therefore, she emphasised that the demands for balanced development and recognition of the rights of the people in both regions must remain a priority for the Federal Government.
“Malaysia Day is a time for us to reassess the journey of this nation, ensure that the voices of the people of Borneo are heard, and advocate for social justice and community welfare. KDM will consistently pursue this agenda,” she said in a statement today.
Priscella also urged all Malaysians, especially those in Sabah and Sarawak, to continue fostering the spirit of unity and maintaining the harmony that has long been the foundation of the nation’s prosperity.
According to her, Malaysia Day is not just a reminder of the historic moment of Sabah and Sarawak’s participation in the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963, but also a call for every generation to appreciate the value of togetherness in diversity.
“I believe that true unity can only be achieved when all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, or region, are given fair space and opportunities in the nation’s development.
The spirit of Malaysia Madani must be strengthened so that no community is marginalized,” she stated.
As such, Priscella called on all Malaysians to make Malaysia Day a symbol of hope, courage, and unity.
“We may differ in culture, language, and background, but we remain one Malaysia. Let us together preserve this heritage for future generations,” she concluded.
