LDP president should reflect on his own party’s fate before belittling other parties, says Jeffery Nor

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Chin Su Phin, the President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), ought to ponder the situation of his own party before assessing the strength of others.

Jeffery Nor Mohamed, the Sabah UMNO Election Director, stated that UMNO has never questioned the strength of the LDP, even though it is well-known that the party lacks representatives in both the Sabah State Assembly and the Parliament.

“I believe it would be better for you to organise your party (LDP) and prepare to contest in the upcoming state elections rather than discussing other parties,” he said in a statement.

Jeffery, who is also the Putatan UMNO Chief,, made these comments in response to the LDP president’s remarks that seemed to undermine the support for UMNO in Sabah.

“Like other parties, in facing the state elections, UMNO is also strategising to achieve success.

“In this regard, if the LDP president were to sit in our position and be treated in such a manner, negotiations would certainly not succeed,” he added.

Jeffery emphasised that UMNO/BN is only claiming the 14 seats it won in the previous state elections (offered eight seats) and is not making arbitrary demands.

“So, it is essential to understand the fundamental principles of negotiation. We prioritise better changes over the current situation.

“And of course, we do not participate in elections for the sake of it; we compete because of the people,” he concluded.
