TAWAU: The proposal to enhance the existing drainage system and deepen the river is expected to help resolve the frequent flooding problems in Kampung Pangkalan Asli, Merotai.
Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, President of the Sabah People’s Hope Party, stated that this issue is receiving serious attention from the authorities, who are planning a comprehensive action plan to address the long-standing problems faced by local residents.
He mentioned that this initiative aims to ensure that rainwater can flow more smoothly, thereby reducing the risk of recurring floods.
“The flooding issue in Kampung Pangkalan Asli is not new; it has been a long-standing problem that burdens the residents and nearby villages.
“However, we are confident that this issue can be resolved through the cooperation of all parties, including the government, technical agencies, and the community, leading to a thorough solution,” he said.
Liew emphasized that the proposal will include a long-term action plan and will not focus solely on physical repairs.
“It will also involve continuous monitoring and preparedness for unpredictable weather conditions that typically increase the risk of flash floods in this area.
“In addition to Kampung Pangkalan Asli, several other areas around Merotai, such as Kampung Jagung, Kampung Kijang, and Kampung Iban, frequently experience flooding,” Liew explained.
He noted that close cooperation between the government, technical agencies, and the community is crucial to ensure that these solutions are implemented smoothly and effectively.
He is confident that with joint efforts, flooding issues can be reduced, and the quality of life for local residents can be improved.
The residents of Kampung Pangkalan Asli hope that this action plan will bring positive changes and resolve the flooding problems.
