KIULU: Sports serve as an excellent means to cultivate and ignite the spirit of unity among people of various ethnicities, especially during sports events held for Independence Day.
Henry Saimpon, the Vice President of the Democratic People’s Welfare Party (KDM) Gundohing, stated that if all communities, including the youth, collaborate in any sports activities, it will surely enhance the quality of sports while maintaining harmony and unity in the state.
“That is why KDM Kiulu has taken the initiative to organise the Santai Football Event with the Rangalau Residents to promote unity and a healthy lifestyle.
“This football event is part of the Independence Day celebrations aimed at strengthening family ties among the youth at the grassroots or village level, ensuring that the people continue to live in peace and harmony,” he said.
Henry, a former state football player, made these comments while discussing the significance of the santai football programme at the Old Rangalau Field here on Sunday.
Also present to witness the players in action were KDM Gundohing Secretary-General Willie Jude and the two Deputy Coordinators of KDM Kiulu, Joluin Joiruh and Saimon Yagul.
A total of six teams participated in the seven-a-side football competition, which was attended by over 100 residents from the surrounding Rangalau village.
The prize presentation to the winning team was conducted by the Village Head of Old Rangalau, K Ktaingin Agu.
