KIULU: Following the statement from the Information Chief of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, that the GRS government has achieved “extraordinary success” in state administration, the people of Kiulu are now demanding an explanation as to why the construction of the small district office building in Kiulu has not commenced after nearly four years since the groundbreaking ceremony.
The Vice chief Coordinator of KDM Kiulu, Saimon Yagul, stated that if what the Kiulu assemblyman said is true, there should be no reason for the project not to be realized, especially since the financial position of the GRS government is reported to be very strong.
Recently, Joniston was quoted as saying that GRS has recorded the highest state revenue in history, amounting to RM6.9 billion, with state reserves reaching RM8.7 billion.
In 2022, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Small District Office Building in Kiulu, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the approval of a budget of RM5 million for the project.
Hajiji mentioned that the new secretariat building for the Small District Office in Kiulu would be constructed on a 2.5-acre site next to the Kiulu Community Hall.
“But after four years, there are no signs that the project will start anytime soon… what has happened? And surely the GRS government does not lack funds… there are plenty of reserves.
“The people have high hopes… waiting and waiting… it can’t take more than four years just to find a site,” he said in a recent social media post.
Therefore, Simon urged the people of Kiulu to rise and take the opportunity in the upcoming state election to rectify the situation.
“Enough with the political rhetoric… we have given three terms, come on Kiulu people, let’s rise for change towards a better future in the next state election,” he said.
