SANDAKAN: The spirit of independence was further ignited in the Batu Sapi constituency through a flag distribution programme held on August 24 and 25.
The programme, organised by the Batu Sapi Barisan Nasional (BN), aimed to foster patriotic spirit among the local community in the Batu Sapi area.
On August 24, from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, the BN Batu Sapi team visited Kampung Air, Kampung Bokara, and Kampung Karamunting Baru.
Each head of household from 50 houses in each village received a set of solar lights as a small contribution. The event was also enlivened by the presentation of the Malaysian flag and Sabah flag to the recipients.
Meanwhile, on August 25, the programme’s focus shifted to the traders. A total of 200 flag sets, comprising 200 Jalur Gemilang flags and 200 Sabah flags, were handed over to shop owners in Bandar Ramai-Ramai and Bandar Leila.
The flag distribution was officiated by the MCA Batu Sapi Coordinator, Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung.
He was accompanied by BN Batu Sapi Chairman cum UMNO Batu Sapi Division Chief, OKK Zantapha Zainal Abidin, along with committees from the MCA and UMNO Divisions.
In his speech, Chin emphasised the importance of embracing the spirit of the independence struggle and the value of mutual respect for one another.
Chin also called on all folks to reflect on the struggles of our leaders and the significance of the National Day celebration.
The programme was carried out with the hope of fostering a spirit of love for the country and state among the local residents in conjunction with this Merdeka Month.
