Strong applause does not reflect genuine support – Salleh

KOTA KINABALU: Loud applause heard at various events, especially political programs, does not necessarily indicate true support.

Former Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, stated that some leaders become overly confident when they see large crowds and hear loud applause.

“However, that is not always a sign of real support.

“People attend events for various reasons — because there are projects for them, because they were invited, or simply out of respect.

“Compliments are not always sincere. Many times, they are merely a matter of politeness, while they still harbor personal issues at home,” he mentioned in his latest Facebook post.

Salleh, who is also the ADUN of Usukan, noted that flattering reports and sweet words do not reflect the actual situation.

“Beneath it all, the people are still struggling with high living costs, limited job opportunities, and concerns about their children’s future.

“Applause can be misleading, but votes never lie. Many are silent now, but they will speak clearly at the ballot box,” he said.

Therefore, he emphasized that true leaders should not be swayed by applause. “They remain humble, listen to the people’s voices, and sincerely seek solutions.

“Power comes and goes. But trust is reserved for leaders who are honest and always stand with the people in both good times and bad,” he concluded
