KOTA KINABALU: Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah was visibly emotional as he concluded the debate on the Home Minister’s explanation regarding the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir in the Dewan Rakyat today.
With a choked voice and tears in his eyes, he ended his speech by saying, “Rest in eternal peace, dear Zara, embraced by divine love. This world was not safe enough for you, but Heaven will welcome you with open arms.”
Prior to this, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail provided an explanation in Parliament about Zara’s case and the government’s actions to address it.
Matbali was the first of six MPs to speak, appreciating the explanation given while expressing hope that the investigation would continue with transparency and courage for justice for Zara.
He stated that the explanation is expected to quell the rising call for ‘Justice for Zara’ that has reached beyond the country’s borders.
He praised the Ministry of Home Affairs for establishing a special team from Bukit Aman and sending a task force to Sabah to uncover the truth behind the incident.
In Sabah, he noted that leaders from the highest state institution, the Governor, down to grassroots levels, have all raised their voices for a thorough investigation.
He mentioned that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hj Hajiji Hj Noor and his wife also reached out to Zara’s mother as a sign of the state leadership’s concern.
“The entire nation, even the world, has risen and united, with no distinction of party, race, or status, because Zara has united us in a true spirit of humanity.
“From cities and towns to the remote villages in Sabah, ‘Justice for Zara’ posters are continuously displayed, symbolising the people’s voice that refuses to let this departure be forgotten,” he said.
Matbali emphasised that those responsible – whether bullies or murderers – must be brought to justice without compromise.
