KOTA KINABALU: Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has issued a stern warning to all potential elected representatives and ministers under his leadership that any of them caught engaging in business or lobbying for personal projects will be sacked immediately.
Speaking at an event today where over 1,500 new members joined Warisan, Shafie stressed that the “red line” was non-negotiable.
“If you’re a minister, don’t lobby for projects. If you want to be a YB, then don’t do business. I will sack them. No compromise,” he declared.
While acknowledging that YBs could still request development projects for their constituencies, Shafie said the proposals must be for the people’s benefit and not for personal gain.
He recounted his time as Chief Minister, when he would reject ministers’ personal project requests and instead require them to submit letters of resignation if they insisted on pushing for them.
Shafie said the move was to prevent the downfall of any future Warisan-led government due to corruption scandals.
“We must learn from the mistakes of others and our own. I will not allow ministers to enrich themselves at the expense of the rakyat,” he added.
