KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Peter Wong King Sing, the life honorary advisor of the Huang Clan (Jiang-Xia) Association in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, has called on more descendants of the Huang family to participate in Chinese associations.
This involvement aims to fortify both the clan and the Chinese community, ultimately enhancing the protection of their rights and interests.
Established in 1995, Peter said the late Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Wong Kwok had served as the president for the first five terms from 1995 to 2005.
He said the present president, Datuk Wong Ten An, took over the helm in 2008 and has led the association for 17 years since. Ten An was sworn in as the president for another term till 2027.
In addition, he said Ten An was the president of the Federation of Huang Associations Malaysia and vice president of the World Huang Family Association for three terms, or nine years in total.
Ten An currently chairs the Supervisory Committee of the World Huang Family Association and is an advisor to the Federation of Huang Associations Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Peter said the Huang Clan (Jiang-Xia) Association Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, secretary general Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen is an outstanding and revered community leader.
She serves as the leader of various Chinese community associations, including as the president of The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu, on top of her property development career.
“Both Datuk Wong Ten An and Datuk Susan Wong are highly respected by the global Chinese community.
“They are exemplars of the Huang clan. I hope more Huang descendants will be inspired by them and get involved in Chinese associations to strengthen the clan and Chinese community in general in order to better safeguard the rights and interests of the Chinese, as well as to preserve the spirit and traditional cultures of the Huang clan.”
Peter said that at the 30th anniversary and 15th committee installation ceremony of the Huang Clan (Jiang-Xia) Association Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, here on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Ten An said the Federation of Huang Associations Malaysia has 47 affiliated associations nationwide, and he urged members to take part in the activities organised by the federation and Huang associations to foster better relations with their counterparts.
He said the World Huang Family Association organises two major events yearly, namely a golf tournament and the World Huang Family Conference.
He said the 9th World Huang Clan Golf Tournament was held in Taoyuan, Taiwan, in June this year, while the 14th World Huang Family Conference (third session) will be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on November 11 this year, which he urged members of the association to sign up for.
He added that Malaysia will play host to the World Huang Family Conference next year, and the association will hold national-level programs as well.
On the other hand, Susan thanked Peter for his great support towards the association, adding that her 95-year-old mother, Datin Seri Panglima Chen Si Mui, is also a life honorary advisor of the Huang Clan (Jiang-Xia) Association Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
She also paid tribute to the founders and past presidents of the association, including her late father, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Wong Kwok, for their contributions.
She said Ten An has led the association for 18 years.
“During his tenure, the association had organised the 11th World Huang Family Conference in Sabah from December 3 to 4, 2011, which was attended by over 1,000 Huang clan members from all over the world.
“The event puts us on the world map.”
She said that Ten An, in his capacity as an advisor of the Federation of Huang Associations Malaysia, frequently led clan members to participate in Huang clan activities nationwide to foster deeper friendships with their counterparts.
“We thank Datuk Wong Ten An for his contribution in creating a united Wong clan family.
“I believe the association will achieve greater heights under his leadership.”
The event also saw Jonathan Wong donate the RM20,000 cash prize he received from the ‘Penternak Ikan Jaya’ award presented by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the award presentation and closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day (HPPNK) 2025 to the Huang Clan (Jiang-Xia) Association Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
