SEMPORNA: The Warisan party has pledged to abolish and resolve all educational debts of the state’s children who previously obtained loans through the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and Yayasan Sabah.
This commitment is contingent upon the people of Sabah granting a new mandate to the party to lead the state government in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17).
If this ambition is realised, borrowers classified as state children will no longer face financial pressure, as Warisan plans to implement a policy of free education for the people of Sabah in the future.
Its president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, reiterated his offer to restructure Yayasan Sabah if the party successfully takes over the state government.
“I will ensure that all wealth returns to Yayasan Sabah, and I will provide free scholarships if this foundation has sufficient funds for the underprivileged children of Sabah.
“I will also abolish loans for government officials, whether they are currently serving or retired, who have debts with Yayasan Sabah. Similarly, for graduates of Yayasan Sabah who are employed but unable to pay their car installments and rent,” said the Member of Parliament for Semporna.
He also mentioned this as the ADUN of Senallang during the opening speech of the Semarak Kecemerlangan STPM Year 2024 program and the Smart-TV Contribution for Primary Schools at the district level, organised by the Semporna Parliament at his residence today.
Present at the event were ADUN Bugaya, Jamil Hamzah; ADUN Sulabayan, Datuk Jaujan Sambakong; ADUN Sri Tanjong, Justin Wong Yung Bin; District Focal Person for Semporna, Hatta Lisani; and District Education Officer for Semporna, Rozita Anjuh.
For the record, in June, it was reported that 400,000 PTPTN borrowers had never made any repayments on their loans.
