KOTA BELUD: The People’s Democratic Welfare Party (KDM) is determined to put up a strong fight against the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the Pintasan state constituency in the upcoming state election.
Despite facing the GRS, the frontrunner that won the seat in the last state election, KDM is confident they can pull off a surprise victory.
Among the local figures touted as potential KDM candidates is the Pintasan KDM chief, Gundohing Datuk Almudin Kaida.
For the GRS camp, besides the incumbent Datuk Fairuz Renddan, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia is also in the running.
So far, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Warisan have not yet hinted at the candidates they will be fielding.
According to Almudin, based on the response from the people in Pintasan, KDM has a bright opportunity to wrest the seat from GRS.
“KDM is well-prepared and positive about facing the ruling party. In DUN Pintasan, there are over 5,000 Tobilung voters (a community within the KDM group), and we hope they will back us.
“But we respect the strength of the opposition and are ready to fight to gain the support of the people, who are mostly Iranun,” he said, adding that nothing is impossible in the political arena.
Almudin, a native of Iranun, said that if given the mandate, he is determined to intensify tourism development programs in Pintasan, located on the coast of Kota Belud.
“I see there’s still a lot of room to advance the tourism sector in Pintasan.
“In addition, I am determined to prioritise efforts to expedite the process of granting land titles to the residents of Pintasan village,” he said, vowing to bring as much development as possible to Pintasan.
