Cooperation with PH remains – GRS leads the government

KOTA KINABALU: The cooperation between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), formed after the failed attempt to topple the state government in January 2023, will be maintained as a genuine partnership.

Explaining the matter, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, who is also the Chairman of GRS, said this was in line with the strong support from PH Sabah when GRS faced the challenges of the event known as the Kinabalu Move.

He said that since then, the GRS-PH cooperation has successfully brought stability and progress to Sabah, which should be maintained based on the good that has come from this cooperation.

In the langkah Kinabalu event that took place in January 2023, GRS, which was strongly supported by Pakatan Harapan at the time, was able to continue the state government administration to this day.

Since then, the solid GRS-PH cooperation, which has proven to bring stability and progress to the state of Sabah, will continue to be maintained as a genuine partnership that is believed to bring many benefits to the state of Sabah.

“Millions of thanks are extended to the PH Sabah leaders from GRS,” he said in his keynote address at the Annual General Meeting of the Sabah People’s Idea Party (Gagasan Rakyat) at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Sunday.

In that keynote address, Hajiji also mentioned the importance of GRS as a strong coalition of local parties in efforts to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Sabah who want to see local parties dominate state politics.

Indeed, our strength in GRS is one of the prerequisites that can lead to the victory and great success of our party in the upcoming elections.

More than that, the unity and strength of GRS are also a guarantee for this ‘locally based party’ to continue to lead and control the State Government, as is the reality today, and God willing, for the next few decades.

“The GRS, built upon the manifestation of grassroots aspirations, will continue to invigorate mature and inclusive accommodative politics by celebrating diversity, upholding the value of consensus, and prioritising the state’s stability and progress,” he said.

Hajiji, who is also the President of Gagasan Rakyat, said he was grateful and happy that cooperation and unity within GRS were going very well.

He said that during the recent PBS-STAR Convention, he could see and feel the spirit of members from both parties to ensure Sabah continues to be led by a local party.

PBS and STAR, both possessing their own strengths and influence, are among the contributors to the foundation of our great house’s strength and resilience, GRS.

“It is not an exaggeration to say that PBS and STAR are not only a source of strength for GRS, but they are also comrades-in-arms who are always by our side providing support, insights, and advice, in accordance with their roles and functions as members of the GRS-PH government administration,” he said.

He also mentioned the same thing regarding the other GRS component parties, namely the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), the United Sabah National Organisation (USNO), the Sabah People’s Hope Party (PHRS), the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and the Sabah Love Party (PCS).

In short, all component parties of GRS have their respective roles in unifying and strengthening GRS as the largest coalition of local parties in Sabah.
