Bumiputera Unity Is the Foundation of a New Political Approach—Dr. Salleh

PITAS: A political model based on accommodation and unity among Sabah’s Bumiputera communities is the way forward to ensure sustainable development and fair representation for all, said Sabah BN Director of Operations Datuk Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak.

Speaking at the Radu Tatap Radu program at PDM Senaja, DUN Bengkoka, here, Salleh emphasised that Sabah had long practiced an inclusive political system.

However, in recent decades, he said patterns of political dominance had emerged, causing some Bumiputera groups to feel left out.

“The BN–PH–+++ coalition offers a new political formula. It is rooted in accommodation, not dominance. No group will be marginalised, no matter how small,” he said.

He stressed that all Bumiputera—whether Dusun, Murut, Bajau, Suluk, Iranun, Kadazan, Rungus, or others—must work together, not compete for power.

“Our struggle is Sabahan No. 1—to prioritise our people, our unity, and our shared future.”

Political appointments, Dr. Salleh added, would be based on structured and inclusive principles—not position-hunting or raw power, but fairness and the will to serve.

Bengkoka, he said, was a perfect example of a multi-ethnic Bumiputera area that could benefit from this model. The principle of winners do not take all would ensure shared leadership and harmony.

Dr. Salleh also reaffirmed that the cooperation of non-Bumiputera communities is equally vital.

“Sabah must move forward as one family—with dignity, equality, and shared responsibility,” he concluded.

The event, held at Dewan Kampung Kalipoun in PDM Senaja, DUN Bengkoka, was well attended by grassroots supporters—with more than 500 people present.

Also present were Datuk Ir. Abdul Aziz Julkarnaian, Political Secretary to the UMNO Sabah Chief; UMNO Kota Belud Division Chief, Tuan Azwan Norjan; UMNO Sabah Youth Chief, Sufian Abdul Karim; and UMNO Kudat Division Chief, Datuk Harun Durabi, along with local leaders from across Bengkoka.
