MACMA Sabah distributes safety jackets to 50 fishermen from Pulau Gaya

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA) Sabah today engaged directly with the community to provide safety jackets and accessories to 50 fishermen in Pulau Gaya, following similar distributions previously conducted in Sembulan and Tanjung Aru.

The Chairman of MACMA Sabah, Dr. Ritchie Jay Cheng, stated that this contribution aims to assist the fishing community in the Tanjung Aru constituency.

“This initiative is carried out consistently to ensure that fishermen can go out to sea more safely, thereby demonstrating our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the fishing community in Tanjung Aru, which is vital to Sabah’s economy,” he said.

Dr. Ritchie made these remarks after handing over the safety jackets to the recipients.

Dr. Ritchie, who is also a member of the PGRS N22 Tanjung Aru Division Committee, expressed hope that the area will continue to amplify the voices of the coastal community and fishermen at the state government level.

He stressed that this ensures the welfare of fishermen remains protected, as the economic potential of coastal areas can be consistently harnessed for a more prosperous future for Sabah.

“We are always attentive to the concerns of the people, including fishermen, and are ready to assist them for the common good,” he added.
