UMNO Must Serve as the Voice of the People in Urban Areas, Not Merely an Election Platform – Salleh

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, the Treasurer of UMNO Sabah, has urged the party to be a representative for the urban populace, emphasising that UMNO’s significance should extend beyond just election periods.

While officiating the UMNO Kota Kinabalu Division Meeting today, Salleh reminded attendees that even though UMNO does not contest in urban constituencies like Kota Kinabalu, it is essential to continue advocating for the concerns of the people.

“UMNO is not merely a tool for elections. It serves as a platform for community engagement and addressing the genuine issues faced by everyday citizens,” he stated.

He pointed out several critical urban issues that UMNO needs to tackle:

Escalating cost of living • Limited access to affordable housing for youth and B40 demographics • Disparity in the job market concerning youth qualifications • Small business owners facing challenges from large corporations.

Salleh stressed that UMNO Kota Kinabalu should maintain a strategic role in shaping political discussions, engaging urban youth, and supporting coalition partners in the forthcoming state elections.

“A revitalised UMNO must be more progressive, inclusive, and consistently in touch with the community – not just during election times,” he remarked.

He commended Hajjah Musliati’s leadership for enhancing UMNO’s visibility in the city and for sustaining active political education and community outreach initiatives.

In conclusion, Salleh urged UMNO to advance with renewed vigour, rooted in the lasting principles of its foundational struggle.
