KUNDASANG: Nazarul K. Wahab, Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri Coordinator for N36 Kundasang, today vehemently criticised the Sabah Education Department for the prolonged delay in the reconstruction of SMK Kundasang in Ranau.
Mr Nazarul stated that Parti ANAK NEGERI is demanding immediate action to alleviate the severe difficulties faced by families and their children entering secondary school.
“As it stands, secondary school students from Kundasang are scattered all over Ranau due to the complete lack of a school building in Kundasang,” he highlighted.
He reminded the authorities that the SMK Kundasang school building was declared unsafe following the 2016 earthquake. While acknowledging the instability of the original ground, Mr Nazarul asserted that measures such as constructing retaining walls should have been implemented to remedy the situation.
He emphasised that Kundasang’s challenging landscape inherently limits suitable areas for school construction, making the original site of SMK Kundasang still the most viable option.
“Parti ANAK NEGERI insists that the authorities rebuild SMK Kundasang on its original site,” Mr Nazarul declared, adding that his proposal has garnered 100% support from the local community.
Nazarul, who is also Parti ANAK NEGERI Youth Chief, went on to accuse the local State Assemblyman, Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, who is now Deputy Chief Minister, of systematic neglect of the Kundasang population.
“After two decades in power as State Assemblyman, Dr Joachim Gunsalam has demonstrably no plan for N36 Kundasang,” he asserted.
He further criticised GRS-PBS, stating, “GRS-PBS, as the governing political party, has no plan for Kundasang as a tourist destination. They have allowed Kundasang town to rot like a squatter area.”
Mr Nazarul concluded by announcing that Parti ANAK NEGERI will be fielding a candidate in N36 Kundasang in the upcoming state election.
