KOTA KINABALU: The Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (ANAK NEGERI) has confirmed it will contest in the Sabah election, due by year end.
Its president, Datuk Henrynus Amin, said that the party aims to contest 20 state seats, with seven seats already confirmed.
“We anticipate confirming a few more in the coming weeks,” he stated when reached by Jesselton Times today.
When asked if he would run in the state elections, Henrynus replied that he has not yet made a decision regarding his participation in the upcoming state election.
“There are several factors to consider, including age, health, and family obligations,” he noted.
Nonetheless, he emphasised that the local party is seeking dynamic, people-orientated, and highly motivated young political leaders to join and contest in the upcoming state election.
Henrynus confirmed that ANAK Negeri is ready to contest independently in the forthcoming election.
“However, Parti ANAK NEGERI is also receptive to the idea of collaboration with small local political parties that are not linked to national (Malayan-based) political parties.
“Indeed, Parti ANAK NEGERI has had informal discussions to explore this idea with a friendly local Momogun-based party, but no formal meeting has taken place,” he added.
Henrynus hoped small local parties prioritise cooperation over competition in the upcoming general election.
“We must be realistic about our strengths. “It is a good idea for smaller political parties to focus their efforts on areas where they possess a strong base and a higher probability of success,” he said.
