Has Sabah DAP lost its fangs?

By social activist Remy Majangkim

KOTA KINABALU: For many years, we have acknowledged and embraced the Democratic Action Party (DAP) as a powerful advocate for the rights of all Malaysians.

This party has emerged as a vital platform for activists, empowering them to enter the political arena and champion the cause of justice and accountability.

In doing so, it stands as a bulwark against the tyranny and mismanagement often associated with the ruling UMNO/BN, striving to protect our nation and ensure a brighter future for its citizens.

Fast forward to today, the adage says that the Lions have made friends with a hyena comes into full circle.

We were dubious; to believe that they would uphold the rules of law, fight against corruption and much more.

In the case of Sabah, the true nature of these leaders has been revealed for all to witness. You cannot deny it or sugar-coat it in any way.

We have received significant information that there are two main factions within DAP Sabah competing to surpass each other, along with some minor splinter groups.

The rot started from the beginning and their decision to work with GRS as part of the state government.

The revelation of alleged corrupt practices involving the State Minister does not shake their resolve to withdraw; rather, they choose to remain steadfast.

In the words of people on the ground, “Silence means acceptance.”

I implore you to revisit the words of wisdom by the former and late Field Marshal of the Indian Army, Sam Manekshaw, on the matter of decisions.

He asked, ‘Why does a person not make a decision?’ Because he lacks confidence. Why does he lack confidence? Because he lacks professional knowledge and competence.

If you are thinking and considering it, he said, “If you must be a bloody fool, be one quickly. Take a decision and accept full responsibility for it.”

Decisions can often lead to positive outcomes for those who are courageous and willing to take risks.

DAP’s series of choices not to seize the opportunity from years ago serves as a valuable lesson.
