KOTA KINABALU: A local political analyst predicts that the Sabah State Assembly (DUN) will be dissolved on July 27 during the closing speech of the Annual General Meeting of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
Musli Oli believes that the closing speech by the Chief Minister, who is also the Chairman of GRS, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, will serve as the best opportunity to rally the spirit and announce the long-awaited state election (PRN) for millions of Sabahans.
“We expect Datuk Hajiji to announce the dissolution of the DUN at that time (July 27),” he stated in a recent Facebook post.
The current term of the 16th Sabah DUN is scheduled to end in October unless it is dissolved before the expiration date.
Two days ago, Hajiji was quoted as saying that GRS is now ready to face the PRN, but the distribution of seats among the GRS component parties has yet to be finalised.
Meanwhile, Musli predicts that PH will contest in more than 20 DUN seats.
“Discussions between PH, GRS, and BN have already taken place. The outcome indicates that the seat distribution for PH has been agreed upon, with a minimum of 20 seats.
“In those discussions, both GRS and BN reportedly agreed not to field candidates in the 20 seats allocated,” he said.
However, Musli noted that discussions regarding the seat distribution between GRS and BN have reportedly reached a deadlock, with both parties agreeing to contest freely in those areas.
Recently, the Chief of UMNO Sabah, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, stated that UMNO will contest the PRN and is ready to collaborate with GRS after the PRN.
Musli also predicts that Warisan will contest at least 60 seats, including those DUN seats that PH is expected to contest.
