KOTA KINABALU: The People’s Justice Party (PKR), one of the component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition in Sabah, has significant potential to capture the Kiulu seat in the upcoming state election (PRN), said PKR Tuaran Division Chief Razeef Rakimin.
He stated that this confidence is based on public support data, the current political climate, and the general perception of the party.
“Even though there are no ‘allies’ from the state and central leadership for this seat, Keadilan (PKR) has the potential to win in Kiulu,” he said in a recent Facebook post.
Razeef noted that PKR Tuaran has already identified at least three potential candidates to be put forward for the Kiulu state constituency.
One of the names mentioned is Rosalyn Gelunu.
However, Razeef did not provide further details regarding this matter.
“If assessed logically, DUN Kiulu is suitable for Keadilan to contest, but if we consider the ‘friends’ seats, it seems Kiulu will be excluded from the list of 13 seats to be contested,” he expressed, hoping that the party would be given the chance to contest in Kiulu this time.
He pointed out that PKR nearly won in Kiulu in the 2013 PRN, losing narrowly by 44 votes.
Also eyeing the Kiulu seat from PH is the local party, UPKO.
Among the UPKO Kiulu leaders mentioned are Joisin Romut and young figure Salbinus Saribun.
The Kiulu state constituency is currently represented by YB Datuk Joniston Bangkuai from PBS/GRS.
In addition to PH and GRS, PKDM, Warisan, the Sabah Dream Party, and an influential figure representing Independents are expected to contest in Kiulu.
According to internal party sources, PKDM is expected to nominate its vice president Gundohing Henry Saimpon, while Warisan is placing its hopes on former secondary school principal Gundohing Saibin Gunsari.
Based on the updated voter register at the end of last year, there are over 16,000 voters, including young voters, in the DUN Kiulu area.
