Jeffery Nor proposes the establishment of an independent body to delve into water issues at UMS

KOTA KINABALU: A leader from Umno Sabah has proposed the immediate establishment of an independent body to delve into the water issues at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and in other areas of the state.

Jeffery Nor Mohamed, the Sabah Umno Election Director, stated that this initiative is crucial for providing the public with clear answers regarding the ongoing water issues.

“Denials and blame-shifting are not conducive to good governance.

“We, the people of Sabah, are all aware of the water issues at UMS, as there have been numerous ‘promises’ since last year that have yet to be fulfilled, and now new ‘promises’ are emerging?

“We also recognise that many other areas near UMS are affected by the lack of clean water resources.

“We must be more realistic; the ones suffering the most are the students and staff, so a swift solution must be reached immediately,” he stated in a press release today.

Jeffery, who is also the Putatan Umno Chief, mentioned that he has received public feedback indicating that two pumps at UMS are operating normally, but both can only pump between 2 to 4 MLD.

“This is inconsistent, and the total minimum requirement for UMS is 5 MLD. If the pump issue is genuine, why was it not mentioned earlier when the initial ‘promises’ were made?

“I view this statement as more of a denial of responsibility by one party. However, the water issue at UMS remains unresolved,” he added.
