KOTA KINABALU: Team spirit is crucial for the success of a political organisation, according to former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He emphasised that significant achievements can be realised when everyone plays their respective roles.
“Regardless of position—whether a top leader or grassroots worker—each individual has an important role to play. The collective effort contributes to shared success.
“Political success is not the result of one person’s work. It emerges from collaboration, mutual support, and a focus on common goals.
“Whether speaking on stage or managing tasks on the ground, every role holds value. Clear responsibilities and opportunities to contribute will strengthen the organisation,” he stated in his latest Facebook post.
Salleh, who is also the assemblyman for Usukan, highlighted the importance of a healthy team culture.
“Members should feel valued, heard, and trusted.
“A sense of ownership does not develop on its own—it must be nurtured through trust and respect among one another,” he remarked.
He acknowledged that differing opinions or personalities are common in any team.
“What matters is how we manage those differences. Engage in mature discussions, respect others’ viewpoints, and remain focused on shared objectives,” he advised.
Salleh expressed hope that differences would not lead to personal attacks or internal conflicts, as such attitudes only weaken the team.
“Internal unity does not mean everyone must be silent. We can express our views and opinions in a constructive and respectful manner.
“Leaders should set an example—listen to feedback, involve everyone, and resolve differences positively,” he added.
Therefore, he concluded that self-importance or excessive ego should be set aside, as it can undermine team spirit.
“A strong organisation unites around common goals, values everyone’s contributions, and fosters a sense of belonging within the team,” he added.
